Sport2Business is seeking interns from the sports community to work in key strategic and operational areas of Sport Relief’s 2011 campaign. Sport Relief sees the value in the high performance behaviours associated with elite participation and is keen to have resource which is eager to learn about the commercial world. In return, successful applicants will benefit from the opportunity to enhance their career prospects through access to hands-on functional exposure in an operational environment. Below are the opportunities Sport Relief most urgently seek to fill. Event management
A key facet of the Sport Relief plan is to manage and successfully run their events; a great high profile opportunity to gain relevant and well publicised work experience. October start and flexible working hours to suit training and competition.
PR and Communications
Help manage the output of information and publicity of flow associated with the nation’s largest charity event. A brilliant opportunity to write copy, engage in strategic broadcasting, network into PR and media organisations. You must demonstrate a keen interest in journalism; writing and PR. October 2010 to March with flex time for training and competition.
Production
The relationship with the BBC means that there are production opportunities for those keen to forge a post sports career behind the camera. More detailed info to follow, but they are eager to see CV’s and start their intern selection process sooner rather than later.
Business Development
Opportunities for high profile podium funded athletes to engage board level contacts to increase corporate donations and learn more about executive business practices. Media Sales Executive
London
Our client, a leading global daily, is looking for a new sales executive to join its advertising and new media sales team. The role is demanding and requires attention to detail, understanding of value propositions, creating compelling reasons to buy.
You will be selling to CEOs and Marketing Directors of FTSE 250, Nasdaq, Dow Jones and NYSE listed companies; primarily in the financial services and information provision space, but also to leading executive education accounts. The average sales cycle is three weeks with intense activity to close around publication deadlines and go to date initiatives that the clients will establish.
The company supports all activity. This is a well rewarded role, with salary expectations starting at £25k per annum with an opportunity to double in first year.
Must haves include a degree in a social science, or finance backed discipline; demonstrable sporting success (particularly from rowing, rugby, tennis or hockey); robust attitude; no fear of failure; excellent team work and communication skills.
This role would suit a retired or retiring athlete as you will be away from home for 20% of your working year.

Our client is a rapidly growing subsidiary of a global publishing and media group. Operating throughout the world, the company specialises in providing in-depth financial information and commercial market intelligence to corporations, financial institutions and professional advisors, who are interested in all aspects of the merger and acquisition market.
The company now wishes to recruit two Sales/Account Managers, who will be responsible for selling their M&A Intelligence tool. The role will be a mixture of account management and new business development, with responsibility for selling to clients at board level and managing the full sales cycle. Initially managing the business of around 10-15 existing accounts, the successful applicants will be expected to target new clients throughout the UK, building the client base on top of this. Each Account Manager will be autonomous in their role and will be commercially responsible for developing and managing their accounts.
Current order values range from £8k to £100k for an annual contract, with a sales cycle of approximately six weeks and the current contract renewal rate is 100%. Monthly targets currently stand at £35k of new business, and this includes any up-sell on renewing accounts.
This is a consultative, solution-based sale. Account Managers are expected to make around 3-4 cold calls per day, with the objective of setting up 5 new trials per week.
The company is specifically looking to recruit athletes from elite sport into these roles, so it is not essential to have previous experience either in sales or the financial sector.
